One Sign, So More People Discover the Good Taste
CHYIHAUR planned a signage identity project for the restaurant brand Pork Knuckle General, covering both outdoor and indoor signage: the storefront draws in streetside customers and sparks an appetite at first glance, while the interior identity carries the brand atmosphere through, so guests feel a consistent brand image from the street to their seat.

For a restaurant brand, the sign is the first dish a customer tastes before ever walking in. Pork Knuckle General makes Taiwanese-style braised pork knuckle its signature, so the storefront has to make passersby remember the brand at a glance and stir their appetite; step inside, and the identity has to carry the same atmosphere. CHYIHAUR delivered the brand's full presence in one pass, from outside to in.
Project Background & Challenge
Pork Knuckle General is a restaurant brand built around signature braised pork knuckle, with much of its business driven by streetside foot traffic. The brand needed an outdoor sign that could stand out in a crowded row of storefronts and instantly say, "Great pork knuckle here." At the same time, the interior identity couldn't be an afterthought; once guests sit down, the brand's personality had to carry through, so the storefront and the dining room never feel like two separate worlds.

Legibility in foot traffic
Shopfronts here run shoulder to shoulder, and a horizontal sign that merely fills its panel with a name sinks into the neighbouring band. The brand name was therefore built as raised white lettering, thick enough to cast its own shadow in daylight, while the brand mascot deliberately breaks above the top edge of the sign to interrupt an otherwise level line of signage. The wall below carries a large image of the signature dish, so who and what are read in two layers — passers-by can decide without stopping.
Design Goals & Strategy
We set the goal as a "brand eatery that's consistent inside and out." The outdoor sign puts the brand name and identity center stage, sharpening streetside recognition and memorability; the indoor signage carries the same visual language, so the atmosphere of the space echoes the storefront. Design, fabrication, and installation were handled by one team, ensuring the color and finish read consistently from outside to in.

The handover up close
The sign does the work at distance; the last few steps to the door need something else to take over. The vertical lines on the pillar switch to calligraphic lettering, extending the brand's character from a name into a sentence, and the tonal gap between black letters and the off-white wall is wide enough to read by daylight alone.

- 03Sign FabricationFabrication of outdoor and indoor signage with unified quality and finish.
- 04On-site InstallationPositioned installation at the storefront and interior, with a full inspection on completion.

Identity carried into the dark
Interior light is dim, so the identity here is self-lit: a round illuminated box carries the same mascot from the shopfront, pared down to a single figure, so the space further in never reads as separate from the facade.
Project Outcome
With the work complete, Pork Knuckle General's outdoor sign gives the brand a striking first impression on the street; passersby can quickly spot the shop's location and its signature dish. The indoor signage extends the brand's personality into the dining space, so guests feel a consistent atmosphere from the door to their seat. Delivering the storefront and interior identity in one go also leaves the brand a visual foundation to follow as it opens future locations.

FAQ
This is a signage identity project CHYIHAUR carried out for the restaurant brand Pork Knuckle General, covering both outdoor and indoor signage. The project was executed end to end, from storefront design and fabrication to on-site installation, keeping the brand's image consistent from the street to the dining room.
CHYIHAUR believes the key to restaurant signage is "letting people know at a glance what you sell and remember who you are." Take Pork Knuckle General: the outdoor sign makes the brand name and identity the lead to reinforce memorability, while the indoor identity carries the same visual language to sustain the brand experience once guests are inside.
CHYIHAUR recommends that restaurant brands plan outdoor and indoor signage together, because only when one team handles the design and fabrication can color, finish, and visual language stay consistent. Splitting the work across separate contractors easily creates a gap between the storefront and the interior, weakening the brand's overall impression.
In the Pork Knuckle General project, CHYIHAUR provided outdoor sign design, indoor advertising planning, sign fabrication, and on-site installation, with everything from design to construction handled by a single team.
