Project Planning & Execution

CHYIHAUR Team

ORCHID Restaurant, recommended by the Taiwan Michelin Guide for six consecutive years, carries a brand character that is minimalist yet elegantly Oriental. For a restaurant facade like this, the signage doesn't need eye-catching lighting—it needs to let the material speak for itself. CHYIHAUR built the design around golden accents, using titanium plating and etched coloring to make the exterior signage box an extension of the restaurant's character.

01

Project Background & Challenge

ORCHID Restaurant has been recommended by the Taiwan Michelin Guide for six consecutive years, a brand known for its minimalist, elegantly Oriental character. The exterior signage had to match that restaurant sensibility: drawing attention not through lighting, but through the fine detail of material and craft. The core challenge of this project was to give the signage box depth and recognizability without any light source.

Where the depth comes from

Leaving the sign unlit was a deliberate trade-off. The frontage of a Michelin-listed restaurant should not be upstaged by an advertising object, so all of the depth was handed to the material instead: hairline-finished stainless steel sets the direction of the metal, titanium plating brings out a warm gold, and daylight and ambient light supply the shading on their own. It reads by day without being lit, and adds no extra light source at night.

Design Goals & Strategy

The design began with golden accents to echo the brand's Oriental character. The main body uses brushed stainless steel, its surface treated with titanium plating to draw out a warm golden luster, complemented by etched coloring for layered detail. The light-free design lets the signage reveal the metal's own textural shifts under daylight and ambient light—understated, yet rewarding a closer look.

Gold that holds up close

Flat gold would look cheap the moment anyone came near. The hairline texture breaks the reflection up first, then the etched colouring presses depth into the curved line, so the same panel reads as a different gold from every angle — detail kept for the last few steps to the door.

The box was set to align precisely with the restaurant's frontage, so from a distance it belongs to the same group as the stone wall and the canopy — part of the building, not an advert bolted on afterwards.

FAQ

This is an exterior signage box project CHYIHAUR carried out for ORCHID Restaurant, a six-time Taiwan Michelin Guide recommendation. The sign combines brushed stainless steel with titanium plating and etched coloring to present its golden accents, uses a light-free design, and was completed in 30 days.

The signage box body is brushed stainless steel, its surface titanium-plated for a golden luster and then given etched coloring for layered detail, making the metal itself the visual focus.

The light-free design echoes ORCHID Restaurant's minimalist, elegantly Oriental character, letting the titanium gold and brushed texture reveal their shifts under natural and ambient light. For a dining brand that values refinement, material craftsmanship can convey brand value more effectively than lighting.

Titanium plating is a surface craft that forms a golden or other metallic-colored coating on stainless steel—stable in color, weather- and wear-resistant. It suits dining, hotel, and luxury brands seeking a refined feel; in this project, titanium plating combined with etched coloring presents the golden accents.

The construction period for ORCHID Restaurant's exterior signage box was 30 days, with 100% design fidelity; a one-year warranty on the fabricated work is provided upon completion.
