Lao Tang Beef Noodles Storefront Sign Design | Stainless-Steel Faux-Rust Illuminated Letter Case
Selected Works
Every step carries the soul and story of the old shop
CHYIHAUR took on the design and installation of the Lao Tang Beef Noodles storefront sign, using a stainless-steel faux-rust technique together with acrylic mini illuminated letters, while the lower housing box was hand-painted to carve out a corroded, rusted texture. From the visual planning of the elevation drawing and factory fabrication through to on-site assembly, we handled every step, letting our care for materials echo the shop's own devotion to its broth and ingredients.

A family-recipe bowl of beef noodles deserves a sign with a story of its own. The storefront renewal of Lao Tang Beef Noodles — from the visual planning of the elevation drawing through factory fabrication to on-site assembly — is, at every step, the beginning of leading people toward that bowl of rich broth. With faux-rust materials and hand-worked texture, CHYIHAUR keeps the old shop's sense of time alive on the sign.
"Every step carries the soul and story of a beloved old shop"
Project Background & Challenge
Lao Tang Beef Noodles is an old shop with a story to tell, so its storefront sign couldn't simply be "new" — it had to hold on to the flavor of time. A brand-new sign made too bright and too crisp would only dilute the atmosphere the shop has built up over the years. The challenge of this project: how to take an entirely new fabrication and give it the look of old metal weathered by years, so that the moment it goes up, the sign feels as though it has always belonged on this street.

From here, step into the flavors and memories of Lao Tang
Turn in at the street corner, and a path leads toward Lao Tang Beef Noodles, guiding you to the entrance where the flavor begins. Here, two familiar silhouettes become the landmark that ties together popularity and memory, infusing this bowl of family-recipe beef noodles with new connections and imagination for a new generation.
Design Goals & Strategy
We chose a stainless-steel faux-rust technique as the core vocabulary — a durable stainless-steel base worked into the look of weathered, aged metal. The brand lettering is paired with acrylic mini illuminated letters, so the nighttime glow stays warm and understated. The lower housing box is hand-painted layer by layer to sculpt a corroded, rusted texture, avoiding the flat feel of standard printing. From the visual planning of the elevation drawing through factory fabrication to on-site assembly, we handled every stage in-house to ensure that every detail carries the spirit of Lao Tang.

The Texture of Time
The outdoor sign carries on the spirit of Lao Tang, combining a stainless-steel faux-rust technique with acrylic mini illuminated letters. The base housing box is hand-brushed with paint, slowly sculpting the weathered texture of aged metal, tracing the silhouette of the old shop across the facade.

From the street corner, step into the story of this bowl of beef noodles
As the night deepens and the lights come on, this sign stands quietly, watching over bowl after bowl of familiar old flavor. Every detail is meant to move in step with the spirit of Lao Tang.
Project Outcome
Once completed, the Lao Tang Beef Noodles storefront wears its faux-rust metal texture with a calm, understated presence by day; after dark, the mini illuminated letters glow softly, quietly watching over bowl after bowl of familiar old flavor. The hand-sculpted corrosion patterns keep the sign from looking "newly made," making it feel as though it has weathered the years alongside the shop itself — CHYIHAUR's devotion to material and texture echoes Lao Tang's own commitment to the flavor of its broth and ingredients.

FAQ
This is a storefront sign design and installation project that CHYIHAUR carried out for Lao Tang Beef Noodles, made with a stainless-steel faux-rust technique paired with acrylic mini illuminated letters. From the visual planning of the elevation drawing through factory fabrication to on-site assembly, we handled it end to end, using a material vocabulary full of the sense of time to echo the spirit of the old shop.
In the Lao Tang Beef Noodles project, CHYIHAUR built the piece around a stainless-steel faux-rust technique, then hand-painted the lower housing box layer by layer to slowly develop the weathered, corroded texture of aged metal. Painting by hand avoids the flat feel of standard printing, giving every stretch of texture a natural depth.
CHYIHAUR chose a stainless-steel faux-rust technique for Lao Tang Beef Noodles because it satisfies two needs at once — durability and a sense of time: the base is weather-resistant stainless steel, yet the surface presents the aged-metal atmosphere of years of weathering. For a shop with history, the texture of the sign can carry the brand story forward rather than interrupt it.
For the Lao Tang Beef Noodles sign, CHYIHAUR added acrylic mini illuminated letters that glow warm and understated after dark. The low-key lighting and the faux-rust material set each other off, letting the storefront keep the old shop's composed character in the night while remaining clearly legible.
