For Ark Greenhouses' outdoor sign, CHYIHAUR deliberately avoided an illuminated light box, choosing instead weathering steel that transforms with the years—the rust layer on its surface is its natural coat, gaining character with age, perfectly echoing a setting that lives in harmony with nature.

Ark Greenhouses' outdoor sign sits in a setting where nature takes the lead, and an overly polished or high-brightness illuminated sign would feel out of place. The brand needed an identity that could withstand the elements while blending into the planted landscape—and it had to be fabricated and installed within a tight schedule so the venue could open on time.
The Case for No Lighting
The site is led by planting and glass houses, where a brightly lit sign would have sat awkwardly against its surroundings, so the lighting was set to none from the very start. A 3.2mm weathering steel plate was used instead and left to speak for itself: by day, recognition is carried by the rust texture and the cut outlines, while the material itself has to stand up to outdoor wind and rain to sit alongside the planting for the long run.
