Let the Sign Greet the Flavor First

Project Planning & Execution

CHYIHAUR Team

For a street-side restaurant brand, the sign is the first member of staff — greeting the brand before a single customer steps through the door. JustFullMart commissioned CHYIHAUR to design and fabricate its storefront outdoor signage, letting the brand name be seen clearly on the street and remembered by everyone who walks past.

01

Project Background & Challenge

JustFullMart is a much-loved restaurant brand, but its storefront sits in a visually cluttered street environment where a sign that isn't clear and prominent is easily drowned out by neighboring shops. The task for this project was to keep the brand identity legible at street scale while conveying the warmth a food-and-beverage brand should carry.

Daytime street frontage with a cream facade and large shopfront windows; a dark-framed ivory light box projects from the wall at left, and warm lighting picks out four framed calligraphy panels on the wall inside.

Placed for the street's angles

On a street this crowded with messages, a sign held flat against the wall only reaches people already standing in front of the door. So the box sign projects at right angles to the street, catching pedestrians and passing drivers in their sideways line of sight first. Facade and plinth stay in low-saturation cream and white, handing the visual weight to the sign alone. Its form and proportions were worked backwards from the shopfront and the street's viewing angles, rather than built first and hung wherever it fit.

Design Goals & Strategy

CHYIHAUR planned the signage from the viewpoint of pedestrians and passing vehicles: the size, placement, and presentation of the brand lettering followed the principle of "recognizable from afar, refined up close." By day the sign is the facade and the first impression that draws customers in; it also becomes a natural brand touchpoint that finds its way into customers' photos.

The hand-off at arm's length

The projecting sign covers distance; by the time you reach the door it has left your field of view, so the brand mark appears once more on the glass. Made opaque, it reads on contrast against clear glass alone, with no added light — and it marks where the door is before anyone pushes it.

  • 03On-Site InstallationCompleting on-site installation and finishing in step with the store's operating schedule.

Two letter sizes on one box

The front face is scaled to the furthest direction it has to reach; the side is only a narrow edge, so its characters are made smaller to fit. The slim frame closes the edge, so what registers at a distance is the lettering, not the frame.

Project Outcome

Once completed, the JustFullMart storefront sign gave the brand a clear, consistent presence on the street: pedestrians can spot the store from a distance, while the brand name and visuals build recognition with the daily flow of people. For a restaurant brand, a sign that gets remembered is the most everyday and most enduring form of advertising.

FAQ

JustFullMart is a storefront outdoor signage design and fabrication case that CHYIHAUR delivered for a restaurant brand. The project planned the sign's form and proportions from a street-level viewpoint, keeping the brand identity clear and prominent along the street as the store's most direct facade.

Outdoor signage for a restaurant storefront depends above all on legibility at street scale — the very core of CHYIHAUR's design approach on the JustFullMart project. The sign's size and position must be planned from the viewpoint of pedestrians and passing vehicles so the brand is recognizable from afar and refined up close, allowing it to be remembered in a visually busy street environment.

On the JustFullMart project, CHYIHAUR provided outdoor signage design, signage fabrication, and on-site installation, with the team handling everything from facade planning to final finishing in one stop.

The sign's form and proportions were settled first, against the storefront facade and the street sightlines. CHYIHAUR then turned the brand identity into a durable outdoor sign. Installation followed the store's operating schedule, with mounting and final finishing completed within the windows the store could accommodate, so the sign stood as a complete facade the moment it went up.
