One sculpted box, lighting up the brand's first impression

CHYIHAUR crafted a facade light box sign for Pesco, expressing the brand identity through a painted stainless-steel sculpted box paired with miniature acrylic illuminated letters: dimensional letters in dual front-lit and back-lit configuration, the metal box washing out its contour with backlighting, completed over a 45-day build with a one-year warranty on fabricated items.

Project Planning & Execution

CHYIHAUR Team

A brand's first impression at the storefront often comes down to the form of the sign and the layering of its light. Pesco's facade light box sign steers away from broad, uniform floodlighting; instead it pairs the sculpted profile of a metal box with small-scale illuminated letters, letting the brand identity read refined rather than loud on the facade. CHYIHAUR planned everything in one pass—box forming, painting, and lighting configuration—to complete this brand-aesthetic signage project.

01

Project Background & Challenges

Pesco set out to establish its storefront identity with a single facade light box sign—a brand-aesthetic project in which the sign is not merely signage but the visual lead on the facade. The challenge lay in craft at scale: the metal box had to be folded from painted stainless steel into a crisp, sculpted profile, while the illuminated letters were miniature acrylic characters. The smaller the character, the tighter the tolerance for forming and light placement—only when the two come together does the whole read as refined.

A close, angled view along a glossy dark metal panel carrying a row of small three-dimensional characters with white faces and matte black returns; unlit in daylight, with grass and a concrete wall mirrored in the panel.

Two light sources for tiny letters

The brand lettering was deliberately kept miniature, and the smaller a letter gets, the less room there is inside the acrylic for a light source — which also tightens the margin for error in forming it and placing the lamps. So every letter carries two sources: front lighting to hold the face bright, back lighting to lay a soft glow around it, buying presence through layered light rather than through size.

Design Goals & Strategy

We centered the goal on the layering of form and light: the main body uses a painted stainless-steel sculpted box, with backlighting washing out a halo of contour so the box floats off the facade at night; the brand lettering appears as miniature acrylic illuminated letters, configured with both front-lit and back-lit illumination for crisp faces framed by a soft glow. The crispness of metal and the translucency of acrylic play off each other—by day you read the form, by night you read the light, and both moments deliver a complete brand identity.

Two thick arch-shaped letters mounted on a cream-coloured exterior wall, one brick red and one dark brown, each with white side returns; an unlit daytime scene, with the glossy dark panel continuing along the wall to the left.

What back-lighting needs first

Dimensional letters that carry back-lighting have to stand off the wall, so a gap is left between the letter body and the wall surface. That gap is not an installation tolerance; it is the run the light needs. Mounted flush to the wall, the back-lighting has nowhere to spread and the outline never lifts.

The coating over the steel

Stainless steel comes only in its own colour, so the dark tone the cabinet needed had to come from baked paint; that same coat is also the surface treatment for the metal — colour and protection done in one pass.

Project Outcome

Once complete, Pesco's facade light box sign presents crisp, refined texture by day through the sculpted profile of painted stainless steel, while at night the twin glow of the box's backlighting and the miniature illuminated letters makes the brand identity refined and eye-catching—with 100% design fidelity. The sign has become the most memorable visual focal point of the storefront, and ongoing maintenance is fully covered by the one-year warranty on fabricated items.

FAQ

The Pesco facade light box sign is a brand-aesthetic signage project executed by CHYIHAUR in 2021. It pairs a painted stainless-steel sculpted box with miniature acrylic illuminated letters—the dimensional letters use dual front-lit and back-lit illumination while the metal box renders contour light through backlighting, all fabricated and installed within 45 days.

The Pesco sign was made by CHYIHAUR using two primary materials: stainless steel and acrylic illuminated letters. The metal box is formed from painted stainless steel, and the brand lettering is rendered as miniature acrylic illuminated letters—the pairing of the two materials brings out layers of form and translucency.

CHYIHAUR planned the lighting of the Pesco facade light box sign in two layers: the dimensional letters use dual front-lit and back-lit illumination for crisp faces framed by a soft glow, while the metal box uses backlighting to wash out the sculpted contour at night.

The miniature acrylic illuminated letters CHYIHAUR used in the Pesco case are demanding because of the forming precision and light placement required at such small letter sizes. The smaller the character, the more limited the internal space for the light source—both lighting uniformity and letterform detail call for more precise fabrication craft.

The Pesco facade light box sign was completed by CHYIHAUR over a 45-day construction period, with 100% design fidelity. A one-year warranty on the fabricated items is provided after completion, and any issues arising during use are handled by the team.
