CHYIHAUR Team
The texture of rust is captivating, but letting iron actually corrode outdoors keeps that good look for only so long—once rust starts running, the brand image suffers with it. For Jun-Yin's signage, CHYIHAUR resolved the dilemma with formed stainless steel and a specialist faux-rust coating: keeping the beauty of rust on the surface while shutting its troubles out of the material.
Project Background & Challenge
Jun-Yin's brand tone favors the distinctive beauty of corroded materials, and they wanted their small outdoor sign to convey that time-worn character. Yet real rust, exposed outdoors to wind, sun, and rain, holds its good looks only briefly before it begins to bleed rust, marring the appearance and undercutting the brand impression. Preserving the beauty of rust while avoiding its aftereffects was the core challenge of this project.

Rust Colour Without Rust
The client wanted the character of rust, but real rust left outdoors in sun, wind and rain does not stay handsome for long before it starts bleeding stains, and the brand image goes down with it. So the letters are folded and formed from stainless steel, which does not rust, then finished with a faux-rust specialty coating — the colour is painted on, not oxidised. Because the base metal does not corrode, that rust tone stays, and no rust streaks are dragged down the wall.
Design Goals & Strategy
Our solution was to render the look of rust in a material that won't rust: the small outdoor sign is formed from folded-edge stainless steel and finished with a specialist faux-rust coating, preserving the tasteful expression of corrosion; because stainless steel resists rusting, it also offers a major advantage for future maintenance. The illuminated identity uses acrylic mini letters with front and side lighting, so the light box and letters render refined luminosity at night—forming a layered contrast against the rugged undertone of the faux-rust finish.

The Order of Operations
This row of letters is not cut from solid stock; it is folded and formed from stainless steel sheet — the face and the returns are bent up into a letter body with depth. Metalwork and surface finishing run as two separate stages: the letters are formed first, and only then does the faux-rust coating go on.

- 02Interior Illuminated LettersFabrication and installation of acrylic mini illuminated letters.

The Plate in the Courtyard
The thick plate is mounted straight onto the iron railing: the ground is rust-coloured, most of the letter faces are mirrored, and only the M is deep brown with a small star on top. A rough ground under fine faces — two expressions on one plate.

A Division of Light
Indoors, the illuminated identity is carried by the mini acrylic letters, in a front-lit plus side-lit pairing; the main lettering at the end of the corridor is not an illuminated piece and is handled by a spot from above.

The Indoor Set
The letters sit on the cabinet body beneath the stone counter, their faces mirror-polished so the warm gold-copper light of the counter area is carried on them; their thickness drops a shadow onto the pale grey ground.

Signage Scope Versus Fit-Out
In this space, only the small letters on the front of the island belong to the signage work; the rust-toned pebble-pattern ceiling and wall and the copper pendants are part of the interior fit-out.
Project Outcome
The finished Jun-Yin sign carries a distinctive character by day, in the warm brown tones of its faux-rust finish, and by night its mini illuminated letters glow under front and side lighting—with 100% design fidelity. The stainless-steel substrate lets the rust-toned texture endure over the long term without any rust runoff, greatly reducing future maintenance, and the entire project was completed within 12 days.

FAQ
This is a case CHYIHAUR completed in 2023 for Jun-Yin, covering an exterior light-box sign and interior illuminated letters. The small outdoor sign renders rust's beauty with formed stainless steel and a specialist faux-rust coating, while the illuminated identity uses front-lit acrylic mini letters—completed in 12 days.
Real rust exposed outdoors to wind, sun, and rain holds its good looks only briefly before it starts bleeding rust and staining the wall, badly undercutting the brand image. Instead, CHYIHAUR forms rust-resistant stainless steel and applies a specialist faux-rust coating on the surface—preserving the beauty of rust, avoiding its aftereffects, and offering a major advantage for future maintenance.
The small outdoor sign is folded-edge stainless steel with a specialist faux-rust coating; the illuminated letters are acrylic mini illuminated letters, lit with a dual front and side lighting setup.
Acrylic mini illuminated letters are small-scale illuminated dimensional letters made from acrylic, well suited to close-viewing signage and interior identity. Here they are presented with a front-lit setup—compact in size yet refined in glow, forming a contrast of the delicate against the rugged faux-rust metal.
This project had a 12-day construction period with 100% design fidelity; a one-year workmanship warranty is provided upon completion.
